Simple airsoft guns that are powered by gas is called a gas blowback pistol. The gas used is generally green gas (propane) or CO2. The hammer of the pistol is released by pulling the trigger. Once the trigger is pulled, the hammer strikes the metal button on the mag and it releases some of the gas. The gas gives a push to the BB in front it down the barrel and then pushes the slide back. This recocks the hammer and the firing happens. When you use a GBB rifle, you get a realistic experience. Some of the advantages of GBB are:
Recoil - Both the GBB pistol and rifle has a strong recoil feature. These results in slide cycling back and impact shock to the body of the rifle or pistol.
No gearbox noise - In GBB pistol or rifle no gearbox cycling and motor are operating to re-cock the piston. That is the reason GBB makes less noise from AEG.
The airsoft blowback aspect is the main thing that makes Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol different from non-blowback. It has a major grin-inducing effect for the user. You would be able to swap or upgrade every single portion of the gun, provided you find the specific part.
